Banff Film Festival NYC

“1 for $3, 3 for $5, 7 for $10 or 15 for $20.” That’s what I was saying, as fast as possible, last night when asked “How much are they?” We were challenged to keep up with the demand for raffle tickets. I was at Peter Norton Symphony Space volunteering to sell raffle tickets during the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The ticket sales benefit the non-profit NY-NJ Trail Conference, a volunteer driven organization working with government and private landowners to create, protect, and maintain a network of 1,700 miles of trails in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan region.

In exchange for the raffles, attendee donors were entered to win a number of prizes donated from Paragon Sports (based in NYC) including a North Face sleeping bag, MSR stove, Petzel headlamps and $100 gift certificates to Paragon Sports retail store.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival event, toured by Chestnut Mountain Productions, highlights the best and most inspirational mountain themed films from the festival held in Banff Alberta Canada.

The evening was filled with numerous inspirational short films. Tuesday’s favorites for me were “Kranked-Revolve” where young mountain bikers are filmed in cinematic glory during their British Columbia visit, “Rowing the Atlantic” where Roz Savage gives up the ‘ideal life’ to be the 6th woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean — alone, and “To the Rainbow” where Paul Pritchard, one of Britain’s elite climbers of the 80’s, returns to climbing 13 years after sustaining a life altering head injury that resulted in hemiplegia.
